Privacy Policy
This policy explains what personal information Gaso Motors collects, why we collect it, and what you can ask us to do with it. It is written to meet the Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019 and the Data Protection and Privacy Regulations, 2021 of Uganda.
Who is responsible for your information
GASO MULTIPLE COMPANY LIMITED (company registration no. 80020000339300), trading as Gaso Motors, of Plot No.3 Jinja Road, Future Holdings Bond, Nakawa, Kampala, Uganda, is the data controller. Our named data protection contact is Muhammad Ali Maqsood. Questions about this policy, or any request about your information, should go to [email protected].
What we collect
| What | When |
|---|---|
| Your name | When you make an enquiry, ask for a quotation, or buy a vehicle |
| Your telephone or WhatsApp number | Same — it is how we reply to you |
| Your email address | Only if you give it to us |
| Which vehicle you asked about, and what you told us you are looking for | When you enquire |
| Payment records, and the documents needed to register a vehicle in your name | Only if you buy from us |
| Anonymous statistics about how the website is used | Whenever anyone visits the site |
We do not ask for, and do not want, sensitive information such as your health, religion, or political opinions. Please do not send it to us.
Why we are allowed to hold it
Under the Act we must have a lawful basis. Ours are:
- Your consent — you contacted us and asked us to reply.
- Performing a contract — if you buy a vehicle, we cannot complete the sale, the payment or the registration without your details.
- A legal obligation — tax and vehicle registration records that Ugandan law requires us to keep.
Who else sees it
We do not sell your information, and we do not pass it to other dealers. It is seen only by:
- Our own staff, so that they can serve you.
- Companies that run the systems we use — website hosting, email delivery, and website statistics. They act on our instructions and may not use your information for anything else.
- The Uganda Revenue Authority and other public bodies, where the law requires it — for example when a vehicle is registered or transferred into your name.
- Your bank or ours, where a payment has to be traced.
Information leaving Uganda
Our website and email are run on services whose computers sit outside Uganda. That means some of your information is stored abroad. Section 19 of the Act permits this, and we rely on your consent together with contractual protections from those providers requiring them to keep your information secure and to use it only as we instruct. If you would rather we dealt with you only by telephone or in person, tell us and we will.
How long we keep it
| Information | Kept for |
|---|---|
| An enquiry that did not lead to a sale | Two years, then deleted |
| Sale, payment and tax records | Five years after the end of the tax period, as the Tax Procedures Code Act requires |
| Website statistics | Kept only in aggregate; not linked to you |
When a period ends, the information is deleted.
Your rights
The Act gives you the right to:
- See what we hold about you.
- Correct anything that is wrong.
- Have it deleted, where we are not required by law to keep it.
- Object to us using it, including for marketing — you can tell us to stop at any time.
- Object to a decision made purely by a machine that significantly affects you.
- Complain to the Personal Data Protection Office if you are not satisfied with our answer.
To use any of these, email [email protected], or ask any member of staff at our premises in Nakawa, Kampala, Uganda. We will not charge you, and we will answer within 30 days. Full instructions for deletion are on our deleting your data page.
If you are not satisfied
Please raise it with us first — most things are a misunderstanding we can fix the same day. If we cannot resolve it, you may complain to the Personal Data Protection Office, the national regulator, at pdpo.go.ug.
Keeping it safe
Access to customer records is limited to staff who need it, each with their own account. Our website is served only over an encrypted connection. No system is perfect, and if information is ever lost or exposed we will tell both you and the Personal Data Protection Office as the Act requires.
Children
Our website and our vehicles are sold to adults. We do not knowingly collect information about anyone under 18. If we learn that we have, we delete it.
Cookies and website statistics
We use a small number of cookies to keep the site working and to count visits, so that we know which vehicles people look at. These statistics are anonymous and are not used to identify you. You can block cookies in your browser; the site will still work.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will change the date at the top of this page. Where a change is significant, we will say so on the website.
